History of the World's First Eco Rotary Club
A Pioneer in Environmental Advocacy
The Duluth Superior Eco Rotary Club was founded in November 2008 with 26 members, a diverse group brought together by their collective commitment to environmental stewardship. It is noteworthy that the Duluth Superior Eco Rotary Club holds the distinction of being the first Eco Rotary club in the world. This unique positioning has set a precedent for the establishment of many more Eco Rotary clubs globally since its founding.

This pioneering club was the brainchild of Kay Biga, who had previously been affiliated with another Rotary club. Driven by a vision to create a Rotary club with a stronger environmental focus, Kay sought to gather like-minded individuals who shared her passion for sustainability and ecological preservation.
Kay Biga's vision for the club extended beyond environmental advocacy. She was equally committed to fostering inclusivity and diversity within the Rotary community. To this end, she has actively promoted the participation of women and younger members, thereby creating a vibrant and dynamic club culture.

Over the years, the Duluth Superior Eco Rotary Club has undertaken numerous hands-on environmental projects. These initiatives have seen members roll up their sleeves and engage directly in fieldwork, making tangible contributions to environmental conservation and sustainability. The club's hands-on approach has not only underscored its commitment to the environment but also fostered a strong sense of camaraderie among its members.
In addition to their environmental projects, the members of the Duluth Superior Eco Rotary Club frequently come together for social gatherings. These "fun food night" events serve as an opportunity for members to bond over shared meals and raise funds for their various initiatives. Such gatherings have played a crucial role in strengthening the sense of community within the club and ensuring its continued vitality and success.
The Duluth Superior Eco Rotary Club stands as a testament to the power of collective action in the pursuit of environmental sustainability. From its pioneering beginnings to its ongoing efforts in environmental advocacy, the club has set a benchmark for Eco Rotary clubs worldwide.
