Alexis Elder, UMD

Ethical Concerns Regarding AI

Alexis Elder is an Associate Professor of Philosophy and head of the Department of Philosophy at UMD. Her research focuses on ethical implications of emerging technologies, drawing on historical traditions to understand these modern issues in the context of human values. She is the author of two books: The Ethics of Digital Ghosts: Confucian, Mohist, and Zhuangist Perspectives on AI and Death, published last year, and Friendship, Robots, and Social Media: False Friends and Second Selves, published in 2018, both through Routledge.

September Fun Foods Night

Join Christy Rounds for a FFN Picnic at the Enger Tower Peace Garden on Thursday, September 3rd! Food will include an entree Asian Chicken Salad (vegetarian option available) and cheddar muffins with scallions. Non-alcoholic sumac shrub with grapefruit soda will be served as a beverage. Gin will be available to add as well.

As a Sustainability Specialist at Resource Renew, Emma Pardini champions public education, outreach, communications, and compliance assistance in recycling, reuse, and waste reduction.
She serves as the vice president of Reuse Minnesota, collaborates to host Twin Ports Green Drinks, and is a proud Duluth Superior Eco-Rotarian.

Join fellow Twin Ports Rotarians and guests to enjoy a performance of  A Chorus Line by the Duluth Playhouse at the Norshor Theater on Thursday, Septmber 10. The Pre-Show Party begins at 6:00 PM, and showtime in 7:30 PM.
